Show Context:
Symbols of purity, fertility and culmination, the maid, the mother and the crone reflect the cycles of
time and nature tied to the bodies of women. Celebrating and making visible key stages of
female experience, they own the space around them in a world which seeks to objectify, control and
suppress them.

Creative Roots Exhibition at Leeds City Museum March - July 2023
Creative Roots at Leeds City Museum celebrates the heritage, traditions and culture of the British Bangladeshi community in Beeston. Gathering stories of their parents, grandparents and wider family in Bangladesh and connecting them with their own stories in Leeds, the Kushy Dil (Happy Hearts) Women’s Group have created a series of vibrant artworks which celebrate identity, language and diversity. Through this exhibition the authentic voices of British Bangladeshi women tell a story of hybrid identities and a fusion of cultures, giving visitors a glimpse into a Leeds community through the lens of its Bangladeshi heritage. In a year which aims to highlight Leeds as a centre of art, culture and diversity we invite you to celebrate the creativity of the British Bangladeshi community of South Leeds.
